New Delhi/Islamabad: Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified sharply following a series of cross-border clashes and airstrikes, raising concerns of a broader regional conflict. The situation has prompted the United States Embassy in Pakistan to issue a security advisory urging American citizens to exercise extreme caution.
In its advisory, the US mission called on its nationals to remain vigilant, maintain a low profile, and avoid high-risk areas amid heightened military activity. Authorities have warned that law enforcement facilities, military installations, and major commercial centers could be potential targets for militant groups.
Pakistani security forces have significantly increased their presence in major cities in response to possible threats linked to the escalating conflict. The advisory noted that citizens should be particularly cautious while visiting crowded areas and public locations during peak hours.
The escalation follows a series of military actions, with Pakistan launching airstrikes on multiple locations, including Kabul and Kandahar, in response to alleged attacks on its border forces. In retaliation, Afghan fighters have engaged Pakistani positions along the border, leading to heavy casualties on both sides. Reports indicate that more than 300 Afghan fighters have been killed in the recent confrontations, although exact figures remain unverified.
The situation further deteriorated after Pakistan described its response as an “open war” against the Afghan Taliban, marking a significant escalation in rhetoric and military engagement. Since Thursday, both sides have reported losses, and fears are mounting that continued hostilities could lead to a wider and more prolonged conflict in the region.
Officials in United States have expressed concern over the deteriorating security environment, with calls for restraint and diplomatic dialogue to prevent further escalation. Analysts warn that sustained conflict between the two neighbors could have serious implications for regional stability and security.
